Disney parks stand out around the world for a variety of reasons, but one of the biggest has to be Disney’s attention to detail! There are hidden details all over the parks – from the windows, to the attractions, to even the bathrooms! Here are a few of our favorite hidden details of Hollywood Studios. Stay tuned for Part 2!

1. Holly Vermont Realty

The Walt Disney Company started in 1923 in the rear of a small office occupied by Holly-Vermont Realty at 4451 Kingswell Ave in Los Angeles. It was there that Walt Disney, and his brother Roy, produced a series of short live-action/animated films collectively called the Alice Comedies. From there, they moved to a larger facility, but the Holly-Vermont Realty Office held a special spot in their hearts. This door can be found on the back side of Keystone Clothiers at Hollywood Studios!

2. The Autograph Hound Billboard

There’s a billboard on Hollywood Boulevard that says “The Autograph Hound”. This is a tribute to the 1939 Donald Duck cartoon that features Donald Duck as an autograph hunter in Hollywood. Fun fact: this was the first cartoon where Donald Duck is featured in his blue sailor hat!

3. International Brotherhood of Second Assistant Directors Window

Hollywood Studios pays homage to classic Hollywood by recreating famous Hollywood landmarks, using billboards to convey messages from 1920’s Hollywood and by placing Hollywood movie making references throughout. One of our favorite references is on the window above Reel Vogue. During the height of the 1920s Hollywood popularity, nepotism (the act of hiring family members whether they were qualified or not) ran rampant.  The stories say that often the “not so talented” family member would be given the fancy title of Second Assistant Director and the responsibility of standing behind the director while holding their coffee for them. The catch phase on the bottom of the window stating: “We’re Standing Behind You!” was a reference to the job duties of the Family Member – Second Assistant Directors.

Note: Second Assistant Director is a real job title for people in the film and television industry today.  The mention about the humorous job duties of the “not so talented” family member is not intended to belittle the duties of the present day Second Assistant Director

4. Muppet Vision Hidden Mickey

Muppet Courtyard is full of hidden details, but one of our favorites is in the Stage 1 Company Store. If you head to the back, you’ll see some laundry hanging on a clothesline – one of the pieces of clothing looks like Mickey’s pants!

5. Who Framed Roger Rabbit Window

Originally, Hollywood Studios had plans for a “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” land, with a tram ride, dark ride, and more. This land never came to fruition, but there are several movie references that can be found in the park. This window is above Hollywood and Vine and is the office window of Private Investigator Eddie Valiant. Next door there is a window that Roger Rabbit crashed through as well.
