When to Book Your Next Lightning Lane with Genie+

In this article, we’ll take you through a brief introduction to terminology of Genie+ and when to book a Lightning Lane.

Disney introduced a new ‘skip-the-line’ option called Genie+. This system replaced the former Fastpass+ system that was active at Walt Disney World for two decades. In this article, we’ll take you through a brief introduction to terminology of Genie+ and when to book a Lightning Lane.

Terminology

  1. Fastpass = Retired name for a “skip-the-line” option. No longer in use
  2. Lightning Lane = New name for Fastpass. Functionally the same, just a new name.
  3. Genie+ = System that books Lightning Lanes. It gives you access to 40+ Lightning Lanes in the parks. It’s built into the My Disney Experience app
  4. Individual Lightning Lane = Four rides at Walt Disney World that are not a part of Genie+. You will pay a separate price to use the Lightning Lane for these rides (currently includes Flight of Passage, Seven Dwarves Mine Train, Rise of the Resistance, and Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind).

When to Book Genie+

At Walt Disney World, all guests book their first Lightning Lane at 7 am. This applies to guests staying onsite and offisite .(Note that offsite guests can not book Individual Lightning Lanes at 7 am – they must book at park open).

The next Lightning Lane is booked 2 hours after park opening, unless you scan into your first Lightning Lane within the first two hours of the park opening. If that is the case, you can book your next Lightning Lane after you use your first.

For every Lightning Lane after that, book either two hours after you last booked, or after you scan in to your most recently booked Lightning Lane. By that, it means the Lightning Lane you last booked. You cannot book another Lightning Lane every time you scan into an attractionOnly after your most recently booked.
