Walt Disney World has announced significant changes to the Lightning Lane system, which will take effect on July 24th. Here’s everything you need to know about the new system.

A New Name and System

The familiar Genie+ service is being replaced with the Lightning Lane Multi Pass. This new system retains many of the functionalities of Genie+ but operates under a new name. Additionally, the Individual Lightning Lane option will now be called Single Pass.

Advance Booking Options

One of the major updates is the ability to book in advance. Here’s how it works:

  • Onsite Guests: Can book their Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections up to 7 days in advance. Onsite guests can book for the extent of their trip (up to 14 days) at the 7 day mark.
  • Offsite Guests: Can book their selections up to 3 days in advance.

This advance booking system is a nod to the old FastPass+ system, giving guests more time to plan their day.

Reservation Limits

Guests can now reserve up to 3 rides per park in advance. This allows for better planning and ensures that you can experience your favorite attractions without long waits. Reservations open at 7 am. Currently, it is reported that international guests will only be able to reserve in advance once they enter the United States (as of 6/26/2024). This includes Canada. We will update below if this changges.

Booking Time Windows

Just like before, you will still be able to book time windows for your selections. Once you’ve used your pre-booked Lightning Lanes, you can continue to book more throughout the day.

Park Hopping

While you can only reserve the advance three lightning lanes for one park, your next Lightning Lanes can be used at any park if you have a park hopper.

Pricing

Expect the prices for the Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass to be similar to the previous Genie+ system. This includes prices varying based on date – busier days will be more expensive. Park prices vs multi park also vary in price and we can assume this will continue.

Our Take

Learning a new system can be challenging, but we believe these changes will ultimately enhance the guest experience. The advance booking options provide more flexibility and allow for better day-of planning, making your Disney visit smoother and more enjoyable. If you’re wondering about Disneyland, the system is getting the new names of Multi Pass and Single Pass but there will be no other changes.

Stay tuned for more updates and tips on how to make the most of your Disney experience with the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass!
