In this article, we’ll take you through five secrets from expert Disney pin traders – from finding rare Disney pins to saving money, you won’t want to miss these tips!

1. Look for pin boards at the parks

Most pin traders know that some cast members wear lanyards with pins on them that you can trade with! But, many merchandise locations also have pin boards. You might see them sitting on the merchandise counters, or hanging behind the desk. Sometimes you have to ask if they have a pin board, and usually the cast member can either show you a board at that location or direct you to the spot where a board is!

2.  Go to the resorts

A lot of people don’t realize that the resorts have amazing pin trading opportunities. The front desk of all deluxe resorts have a pin book. We typically wait in line for the Concierge and ask them to see it, but you can ask the front desk staff too!

The gift shops in some of the resorts have pin boards also, if you don’t see one just ask the cast member!

3. Do some research before your trip

It’s worth it to do some research before your trip. Find out what the newest hidden Mickey set is, and look up some of your must-have pins. This way, when you are walking by cast members you can take a quick glance to see if they have a pin you want! Of course, you can always approach them and ask, but sometimes you’ll spot someone from afar and it’s helpful to know exactly what you want.

Also, be sure to photograph your collections before your trip so you don’t accidentally trade for duplicates!

4.  Don’t wait on limited edition pins

Limited edition pins can sell out the first day. If you have your eyes on a limited edition pin, don’t wait on it or it could be gone! If you don’t see the limited edition pin in a shop, ask the cast member. They might have it behind the counter, and if not they can find another location on property that has the pin.

5.  Trade for mystery pins

Some cast members have mystery pins on their lanyards. You can identify a mystery pin easily – only the Mickey pin back will be showing. Just ask the cast member to trade for the mystery pins. Some cast members will ask you a trivia question before they show you, but don’t worry if you get it wrong! They will still show you and let you trade.
