Planning Your January 2025 Disney Trip: A Guide to What You Need to Know

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World in January? Here is everything you need to know about visiting this time of year.

If you’re planning a January 2025 Disney trip, you’re in for a magical experience, but there are a few things to keep in mind to make your visit smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free. From crowd levels to special events and closures, here’s your ultimate guide to navigating Walt Disney World in January.

Crowd Levels: Generally Low, But Watch Out for Marathon Weekend

One of the best parts of visiting Disney in January is the relatively low crowd levels. With the holiday season over, January is considered a quieter time for the parks, meaning shorter wait times and a more relaxed atmosphere. However, it’s important to note that Marathon Weekend (January 8–12) can bring a surge of visitors, especially to the resorts and parks near the race events. If you’re planning to visit during this time, be prepared for higher crowd levels around the race route and increased hotel bookings.

Weather: Average Highs of 71°F and Lows of 52°F – Bring Layers!

January in Orlando typically brings cool, pleasant weather. The average high temperature is 71°F, and the average low is 52°F. While this is perfect weather for theme park touring, it can feel quite chilly, especially in the mornings and evenings.

Be sure to pack layers, including a light jacket, sweater, and even a hat. It’s also wise to bring a heavier coat for the evenings, particularly if there’s a cold front moving through, as temperatures can dip even lower. With a current cold front in the area, expect cooler-than-usual mornings and evenings. Don’t forget sunscreen for those sunny afternoons!

Water Parks: Blizzard Beach Is Open, Typhoon Lagoon Closed

For water park lovers, Blizzard Beach is currently open in January, while Typhoon Lagoon is closed for refurbishment. Unfortunately, there is no set reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon, but it’s expected to open sometime in early summer 2025.

Perk for Onsite Guests: If you’re staying on property, take advantage of the complimentary access to the water parks on your check-in day. This perk is a great way to cool off after a day at the theme parks, especially if you’re visiting with kids who are eager to splash around.
